Post-punk, garage rock and rap with the volume up.
Beaub'FM was started in 1987 by young people from Beaubreuil, a district of about 10,000 people on the edge of Limoges, and became the first community station in the region, licensed on 89.0 FM in 1992. The association Médias Beaubreuil runs it with four staff and around thirty volunteers, as a local station that refuses the "difficult estate" label and works on dialogue, integration and the fight against discrimination. It belongs to the Fera, a federation of independent rock community stations.
About 150 hours a week are music, programmed by the station and by its volunteer hosts, and its new-release picks lean on post-punk, garage and indie rock alongside French and US rap, electronic records, punk, disco and folk. Interviews and outside broadcasts from local gigs and festivals fill the rest, with the Fera's discoveries passed along every week.
