Indie rock and post-punk with a Colorado local streak.
Colorado Public Radio launched OpenAir on its 1340 AM signal on Halloween 2011, billed as new music from CPR with a lot of local talent in the mix. In 2015 it paid $5.75 million for the 102.3 FM signal, a frequency that had run through country, adult hits and sports, and moved OpenAir there as a non-commercial station. On July 1, 2019 it relaunched as Indie 102.3, now carried on sister signals from Fort Collins down to Colorado Springs and up into the mountains at Vail and Carbondale.
Weekdays open with Dana Meyers on The Morning Show, and the rotation leans on indie and alternative rock with post-punk, new wave and the odd country songwriter mixed in. Evenings carry the specialists, among them Jason Thomas's Hear First hour of brand-new releases, Alisha Sweeney's More From The Local 303 for Colorado bands, Meyers again on The Punkyard, and Carmel Holt's Sheroes, a weekly hour of women in music.
New records, mountain air.
