Authored radio: music first, then everything else.
Futura went on air on 12 November 2021, started by Pedro Ramos after he left the director's chair at Radar, and it launched the way a label would — a party at the Incógnito in Lisbon, with the shows themselves premiering the Monday after. The premise sits in the subtitle: rádio de autor, meaning every programme belongs to whoever makes it, and editorial decisions stop there rather than passing through anybody's committee. There is no FM behind it; the thing is online by design.
The team is thirty-one strong and most of them did something else first — Tom Barman of dEUS, Tó Trips of Dead Combo, the DJ Yen Sung, the actress Catarina Wallenstein, the film critic Rui Pedro Tendinha. Their shows run from Salón Fuzz to Brincando aos Clássicos, and an hour of the stream took in Josh Rouse, Ryuichi Sakamoto, The Stranglers and Peter Broderick.
Everyone here already had a career.
