Quitando el polvo a la aguja…
Punk, 60s pop, and a quiz between the records.
Gerry O'Boyle opened Filthy MacNasty's in 1993, a pub where Shane MacGowan lived upstairs, Johnny Depp pulled the occasional pint and the NME ran unofficial meetings. When it ended he opened The Boogaloo on Archway Road in Highgate in 2002, and Chris Martin, Chrissie Hynde, Wolf Alice, Suggs and Pete Doherty all ended up playing it unannounced. The station came later: the bin shed in the beer garden was cleared out, mics and desks came up from the cellar, and O'Boyle rang round the regulars.
Everyone he asked said yes, which is still roughly how the schedule works. Cherry Red's Iain McNay and Creation's Alan McGee have slots; Cian and Ciara cover the new Irish releases, Raechel Donahue tells tall tales in tunes, and Henry Shaw runs Dancefloor Troubadour. The Times once called it the best online radio station, and it has not tidied up since.
Last orders never called.
