Dusting off the needle…
Grown-up indie, folk, and Americana from NYC.
WFUV signed on at 90.7 on 7 July 1947 from studios built into the top floor of Keating Hall on Fordham University's Rose Hill campus in the Bronx, where the licence has stayed ever since and the antenna still sits on the medical centre next door. Vin Scully passed through as a student there before he ever called a Dodgers game. It ran as a college station for four decades and turned professional public radio in 1990, becoming one of only three NPR member stations in all of New York City.
The weekday format is adult album alternative — indie, folk, Americana and roots handled by hosts rather than by a clock — with local news, sports and a considerably broader weekend lineup around it. The live in-studio session is a fixture here, and the station leans on discovery without ever sounding like it is trying to prove a point about it.
Taste without the try-hard.
