Dusting off the needle…
Warsaw's collective radio, death metal through to j-pop.
The name is not about Warsaw being a capital. It comes from Kapitalizm JEST! — Capitalism IS! — a slogan from the Komuna Warszawa collective's residency at the Museum of Modern Art, whose argument was that since nobody is escaping the system, it is better to use its methods than to renounce it out loud. Better, then, to start Radio Kapitał. It went on air on 29 June 2019, paid for by issuing shares to its own community and by a benefit anti-New-Year's-Eve party, and it has stayed non-commercial since.
A few hundred contributors each take an hour, and the tags on consecutive episodes read death metal, j-pop, classical, deep house, ASMR. Świergoty runs industrial and noise, Larmo ambient, PARDON MY RADIO contemporary jazz and grunge, Choreomania bass and techno, while Ludzie na granicy talks about the border. Studios opened in Łódź and Wrocław in 2020.
A shift each, and no format.
