Dutch newcomers on guitars, straight from the club stage.
Pinguin Radio has long put on its own Pinguin Showcases, nights for emerging bands in clubs from Haarlem and Nijmegen to Groningen and Zwolle, plus a yearly showcase during Eurosonic Noorderslag. The Showcase stream is the radio side of that work. Bands can sign up for airplay through Musisum, the station's own platform for artists, friends of the station get a say alongside the compiler on some new tracks, and this is where the newest acts get heard, quite a few of them bands that have played those Pinguin nights.
Nearly two-thirds of what plays is by Dutch artists, with Belgian, British and American newcomers filling out the rest, and few names come round more than once a day. The sound leans alternative and indie, guitar bands first, with indie pop, garage and post-punk, grunge-leaning rock and a fair share of singer-songwriters and electronic producers among them.
Tomorrow's support act, today.
