Hard bop and vocal standards, with fusion at the edges.
Jazz was in FIP's mix from its first broadcasts in 1971, and from late 1981 it had an evening programme of its own on the main station, Jazz à FIP, which ran for decades. The webradio came much later, on 5 January 2016, when FIP marked its 45th birthday with six themed channels and FIP autour du jazz, since shortened to FIP Jazz, took the whole family as its brief. The station's own line for it promises all of jazz plus its cousins, and a double vinyl under the same name followed in 2018.
Singers do a lot of the work here, the great fifties and sixties vocalists especially, with the organ-and-guitar side of hard bop and soul jazz close behind. About two tracks in five have come out since 2010, though, and guitarists stand out among the newer names, sitting easily beside the fusion records of the seventies. Swing and cool jazz fill the gentler stretches, and the odd bossa nova slips in.
Late nights, whatever the hour.
