Symphonies and string quartets, plainchant to premieres.
Radio 3 grew out of the Third Programme, an evenings-only BBC service of serious music, plays and talks that first went on air on 29 September 1946. It took the Radio 3 name on 30 September 1967, the day the BBC launched Radio 1, and three years later a reorganisation moved current affairs to Radio 4 and left it with classical music, drama and the spoken arts. Overnight broadcasting began in 1996 with Through the Night, built from concert recordings shared by Europe's public broadcasters.
Most evenings carry a full concert, often from the BBC's own orchestras and singers, and the Proms go out live every summer. Daytime runs from baroque to living composers around Composer of the Week, on air in some form since 1943. On weeknights 'Round Midnight turns to jazz, Late Junction and Night Tracks wander further out, and Choral Evensong comes live from a cathedral or chapel on Wednesdays.
Long attention spans welcome.
