XRaydio came out of a long afternoon's drinking in Plovdiv in 2011, when Zac Kuzmanov and the music promoter Miroslav Simeonov talked themselves into starting a station and had one running within days of that late-June conversation. Miro died not long afterwards, and Kuzmanov has kept it going since, calling the result as much a club as a radio station and funding it on listener donations rather than advertising. The audience has long since spread past Bulgaria, and the output has since split into three parallel streams.

This is the channel with no remit: psych and indie running into synthwave, shoegaze, electro, acid house, noise rock, techno, dream pop, vaporwave and phonk, plus whatever seventies and eighties records the DJs will own up to. Two dozen residents fill it, several of them long-running — TApWATER is past its 150th edition, Loose Canon past its 600th.
