Die Nadel wird entstaubt…
House, techno and disco from a corner of Brooklyn.
The Lot Radio started broadcasting in February 2016 out of a shipping container parked on an unused triangular lot in north Brooklyn. Francois Vaxelaire founded it and still owns it, while Pauline Le Mell runs the programming and most of the daily operation, with Chris Cherry and Lloyd Harris directing shows alongside her. A coffee counter and a bar on the same patch of asphalt pay for the thing, and it took Best Online Radio Station in North America inside its first year, before the neighbourhood had worked out what the container was.
Everything goes out live and on camera, with no pre-recorded filler anywhere in the schedule. Four Tet, Floating Points, Nina Kraviz, Ben UFO, Louie Vega, Ellen Allien, Octo Octa and Fred Again have all taken the decks inside the container, alongside the New York DJs who fill most of the week, and every set is archived on Mixcloud once it ends, which is how most of them get heard.
New York, mixed in public.
