Crate funk, turntablism and punk, eighty shows deep.
Radio RapTz broadcasts out of the 18th arrondissement of Paris and calls itself the rapporteuz of social and cultural actions — a neighbourhood medium as much as a music station. It is an association run entirely by volunteers, from the presenters to the DJs and the producers, and it carries no advertising at all, which it says is the price of saying what it likes. A mobile studio takes the whole operation into schools, community centres and street parties to teach people how to make radio.
ZeMix, the house rotation, holds the dial through the night and most of the day, and more than eighty shows turn around it. The podcast shelf is filed under funk, jazz, deep house, punk, turntablism, reggaeton and moombahton, and one recent hour of it ran early-nineties British club dub into New York street rap, X-rated funk and a New Orleans bounce record.
A neighbourhood with a transmitter.
