Punjabi ghazals, thrash, and Delta blues from UVic.
Campus radio at the University of Victoria started in 1965 as CKVC, piped into two residences and the student union building, and it died there in 1970. Students revived it in 1981 as a radio club, and on 17 December 1984 CFUV became Victoria's second FM station — all 49.4 watts of it, at the far end of the dial. A student referendum and a long CRTC application later, it moved to 101.9 FM at 2,290 watts in January 1989, which is where it still sits over Greater Victoria and the Gulf Islands.
Something like 110 programs fill the week, hosted by students and Victoria residents who get their broadcast training free from the station. Straight No Chaser covers the jazz, THRASHCAN the thrash, Hand-Picked Blues the blues, Salsa Del Barrio the dancefloor, and Taste of Punjab runs in Punjabi and English. The station ran its own print magazine, Offbeat, for years.
Nothing here tests well.
