Melodic techno and Iran's next wave of producers.
AliPink — Ali D., who took the name from a seventies prog-rock band on the tapes in his parents' collection — has been DJing and producing in Tehran for more than twenty years, which in Iran means working at a scene the state treats as criminal. He started Techno Tehran Records in 2017 to put the city's underground techno and tech-house producers on record, and it has passed seventy-five releases. The radio followed in 2021, built as the label's sister platform rather than a venture of its own.
The label's own catalogue fills the daytime, and the evenings go to guests: the German-hosted DESIRE, De Rerum Natura, and a run of TTR Loves shows that hand an hour to Brazil or Canada. Almost every slot is labelled melodic techno, with melodic house and a strand the station calls ethereal techno around the edges. An Artist of the Month slot and label premieres sit alongside them.
Tehran, after hours.
