The rave scene that outlived its own frequency.
Power FM went on the pirate band in 1992 and stayed there until 2003, one of the longest runs any Dublin pirate managed, and through the nineties it was a large part of how the city's dance scene found an audience. In 1998 it became one of the first Irish pirates to put a signal on the internet, and that is the half of the operation that survived; volunteers have kept the stream going without a break since, and the shows go out under the names of the people who make them, week after week.
House holds the middle of it — progressive, deep, soulful — with techno, acid and Detroit either side, and jungle and drum and bass through the small hours. Gerard Proudfoot's The Philosophy of Sound and Anthony O'Brien's house sets come round weekly, Del's Beats From The Bridge takes the hip-hop end, and FLavRjay spins vinyl-only oldskool hardcore.
Never did get a licence.
