Leipzig's open-access radio, from a summer container.
Sphere Radio runs on its members, in the east of Leipzig, on the premise that making radio should not require having made radio before. It is non-profit and deliberately unpolished — the stated point is not professionalism or perfection but having somewhere to test an idea and learn in public — and it addresses itself to people with little access to conventional media production, naming racism and sexism among the reasons why. Members carry the costs; nothing is competitive and nothing is sold.
Shows can be recorded in the studio or anywhere else on mobile kit, and everything lands afterwards in an archive that stays free to anyone who wants it. The grid runs Marginalia's readings-with-music, Morbid Tales, Pulling Out The Stops, Keremet and DDG On Air, plus the sound-art and interview broadcasts the station makes each year with the Seanaps festival.
No experts, no bosses, just airtime.
