99. 8 from Aberdeen, programmed by the city itself.
Station House Media Unit set up as an Aberdeen media charity in 2003 and tested the idea with four magazine shows on MEfm, the city's multi-ethnic station, then five more on the Aberdeen International Youth Festival's Festival FM. Residents asked for something permanent, so a working group of volunteers applied to Ofcom and won a five-year community licence in 2005. A studio went into the Woodside regeneration area, opened online on 17 March 2005, and took 99.8 FM on 20 October 2007; DAB+ came later.
Volunteers are trained and then left to it, which is how one week holds Bhangra Beats, Dave's Country Music Show, Ultimate 80s, Finnie's run from northern soul to dubstep, and 57 North Presents on Aberdeen bands. Weekdays run Breakfast, Packed Lunch and Cruise Control; Speak Out hands the microphone to P6 and P7 pupils from six city primaries.
