Campus news, Minho arts, and records in between.
RUM started as a protest. In 1989 the students' association at the University of Minho fell out with the university over the price of canteen meals and answered by putting a radio station on the air; the first transmission went out on 10 July that year. It has long since outgrown the argument — it grew a salaried newsroom, a technical department and a programming team, working out of GNRation on Travessa do Carmo, the city's arts and music centre, alongside its galleries and concert rooms.
The music leans alternative: indie and alternative rock, electronic, world music and the experimental end, with room kept for artists who have not broken through yet. Around it sit campus and regional news, arts coverage that follows the Minho's theatres and festivals from Guimarães Jazz to Vila Flor, and Top RUM, the station's own chart. Everything repeats as a podcast.
Braga's own frequency.
