A fortress town's webradio: folk, jazz, world, rock.
Cédric Dautrey started out making programmes on the local station of his home town in the Haute-Marne, then ran a webradio called Radio Madré, and Radio Rempart is where that went next: a handmade station broadcasting only over the internet from Langres, the walled town above the Marne valley. There is no advertising and no network format behind it, and the selection is one person's rather than a committee's, which is the whole argument for the thing existing.
The range is deliberately wide — independent releases, music from elsewhere, pop, folk, rock, electro, jazz and blues — and picked against what the large playlists do automatically. New and unsigned artists from the region, from the rest of France and from further afield get the same treatment on air as anyone with a label behind them.
One man's taste, no committee.
