A Coruña's community 103. 4, no boss, no censor.
CUAC started as a university collective in A Coruña in 1995 and has been on 103.4 since the year after, without a break. It takes no advertising and answers to nobody outside itself: decisions go to a members' assembly, five volunteer groups handle the day-to-day, and the board is elected every two years. More than 250 programmes have been made there and over a thousand people have sat behind its microphones, many of them arriving through the station's own radio school.
The music runs in Galician as often as not. A Rumboia digs through Galician folk, Aires Celtas keeps the Celtic hour, Ábrete de Orellas follows the local scene and Xeración Bravú the rock movement that came out of it. Frecuencia Electrónica books guest sessions, and around them sit literature, prison radio, science and schoolchildren making programmes in Galician.
