Espeeera...
Quitando el polvo a la aguja…
Straight-ahead jazz, plus blues, mambo and brass.
College of DuPage put WDCB on the air in July 1977 as a five-kilowatt station running classical, educational and news programming out of a room in its Student Resources Center in Glen Ellyn, west of Chicago. Jazz turned up in the early eighties and had taken the format over by the end of that decade, and it has never given it back. The college holds the licence, the studio sits in the same building on the east campus, and a second signal on 90.7 reaches into Chicago's West Loop.
Straight-ahead jazz is about three-quarters of the music, and close to a third of the schedule is presented by volunteers — a good few of them working Chicago musicians. Bobby Broom hosts Jazz Spectrum, Orbert Davis The Real Deal, Dee Alexander the Sunday jazz show. Around them sit Mambo Inn and Jazz Tropicale, Blues Before Sunrise, The Sounds of Brazil and a folk festival hour.
