Anything can follow anything, and usually does.
WCBN is licensed to the Regents of the University of Michigan, operates under the name Campus Broadcasting Network, and has existed in one form or another for more than seventy years. The studio sits in the basement of the Student Activities Building on the Ann Arbor campus, and the station is run by students with help from community volunteers, for what it describes as the enjoyment and enlightenment of its staff, its student listeners and everyone else within range of 88.3 FM.
Nobody tells the DJs what to play. They pull from the station's own library and are expected to mix genres intelligently and show the links between them, which in practice means jazz, reggae, blues, hip-hop, country and rock inside the same shift. Specialty shows sit on top of that: Tempo Rubato for classical, The Gospel Train, Pan African Heartbeat, and a daily sports show.
Chaos, lovingly organized.
