Six people met in Catania and turned what they wanted from the city into a cooperative in San Berillo, the historic quarter at its centre. Stravento is the whole of it — a bar, a web radio and the club house of San Berillo Calcio Popolare — held together by a manifesto set against the urban and economic pressure squeezing the quarter, and by a stated preference for a city that is open, mixed and worth living in. The remit it gives itself runs from the quarter to the Mediterranean.

60 Hz comes round once a month with the Burnout Crew, an hour on drum and bass and the collectives around it. Irene's 69&Checkers makes a monthly trip to 1960s Jamaica, ska into rocksteady into early reggae. Chiacchiere allo Stravento is improvised talk about whatever the city is doing. Between shows the rotation runs Palestinian rap, Los Angeles cumbia and Sicilian folk.
