Mooment...
Die Nadel wird entstaubt…
Psychedelia, emo, and everything said in between.
Tom Tenney and Robert Prichard, both veterans of New York's underground performance scene, put Radio Free Brooklyn on air in May 2015 from the basement of a Bushwick bike shop with seventeen shows, as a way to keep making things for local artists while the city's rents pushed everyone else out of the room. It is a 501(c)3 now, with well over a hundred members and a proper studio on Cook Street, and new hosts still put in three months of volunteering before they get a permanent slot of their own.
Around a hundred shows run without a house style: Bushwick Garage takes psychedelia, punk and hip hop, Vinyl On Queue plays Brazilian and West African records straight off the wax, Rock Bottom is emo and nothing else, and Roller Rink Radio is disco plus a skating diary. The talk half covers city politics, queer life, gentrification and what people are cooking.
Nobody edits the hosts.
