Drum and bass with the sharp edges sanded off.
Istanbul's 103.8 FM became Dinamo in November 2003 and stayed on air for a decade before the station moved wholly onto the web, splitting into nine channels with a curator behind each one. Its events arm has run more than two hundred nights, with guests from Orbital and Groove Armada to Goldie, whose booking put drum and bass in front of a Turkish audience that had mostly met it on import records. The channel itself came later, when there was enough of it to fill one.
Fluent takes the liquid end of that music: rolling breaks under warm pads, vocal cuts and jazz-leaning basslines instead of neurofunk teeth, with Calibre, Villem and Rehabilitation Units in rotation. It runs at the tempo of a club record and the temperature of a late afternoon, which makes it the channel Dinamo reaches for when the speed goes up but the mood should not.
175 BPM, zero aggression.
