Punk, radio art, and local news from Halle's free airwaves.
Corax e.V. was founded in 1993 by people out of Halle's left scene paper and its amateur-radio circles, and then spent seven years getting hold of a frequency: a provisional studio in the attic of a self-run cinema, workshops with the Böll Foundation, submissions that helped push Saxony-Anhalt into legalising non-commercial local radio in 1996, and a 48-hour broadcast from a cellar on Herderstraße during the 1998 Paulusfest. The licence followed; 95.9 went live on 1 July 2000 and has run ever since.
A one-kilowatt transmitter on the Petersberg carries it well past the city, out to Köthen, Bernburg and parts of Dessau and Naumburg. The programme is whatever the members bring: Widerhall's two-hour local magazine, Maximum Rocknroll, the Zonic Radio Show, a youth strand and an inclusive radio project. The RadioREVOLTEN festival office sits in the same building.
350 volunteers, one bird a week.
