Amapiano Cartel RadioAmapiano Cartel Radio

ClemiTheGroove runs this out of Johannesburg alongside his other ventures — TheGroove Entertainment, the Visionary Artists Agency, a sunglasses label — and gave it a brief of exactly one genre. There is no schedule and no presenter: the stream simply runs, and the pitch is aimed at people arriving at amapiano for the first time as squarely as at anyone who has followed it since the Pretoria house parties. Nothing that is not amapiano gets on it, which is the whole proposition.

What plays is the centre of the genre rather than its edges: Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, Mdu aka TRP, TitoM and Yuppe, Young Stunna, Nkosazana Daughter, Scotts Maphuma. These are current releases, mostly within weeks of coming out, with the faster sgija end and the jazzier private-school side both kept in the rotation alongside the obvious hits.
